¿How long does porcelain veneers
last?
Porcelain veneers were initially design
in the 1980. Many thins can affect the
duration of the veneers: The quality of
the adhesion to the tooth structure, the
patient bite, as well of inadequate use
of teeth, like opening a bottle, cutting
things with the teeth, etc. In good
situations they can last for a long
time.
We have patients that have their veneers
for over 11 years with no problems at
all. Today with the advances in tooth
adhesion we can achieve excellent
performance. It is very reasonable to
think in an average of 10 years of
performance for the veneers if there
aren’t high risk conditions in the bite
of the patient, always accompany by good
compliance with a preventive plan to
keep good gum health.
Since the veneers are place on top of
my teeth, they look tick and fake ¿Can
this be prevented?
Porcelain veneers shouldn’t look thick
if they are done correctly. It happens
when teeth are not prepared correctly or
the lab makes them too tick. To prevent
this mistake a detailed evaluation of
the smile must be done to design a good
treatment plan and a high-Tec lab with
experience on veneers must be selected
to achieve excellent esthetics.
¿How can I fix the appearance of the
veneers, if I don’t like them?
The veneer can be removed and replace,
but this procedure is more difficult. If
the dentist does not have the ability
and training required for these
procedures, complications can appear:
like excessive tooth removal that can
put teeth in danger.
In such cases it is even more important
to do a detailed smile evaluation to
identify the mistakes and plan how they
will be corrected. Experience will allow
us to address each esthetic detailed
from proportions, teeth angulations, as
well as their relation with gums, lips,
and the face to design a treatment plan
that will produce esthetic satisfaction
to the patient.
¿Do veneers fall easily?
When the teeth are prepared correctly
and they are cemented to the teeth with
the adequate technique, if there are no
problems with the bite they shouldn’t
fall.
This is usually cause by inadequate
bonding to the teeth. This is a very
sensitive procedure, if the tooth and
porcelain surfaces are contaminated by
saliva or oil, the bonding will fail.

There are stains around the veneers and
I can see the dark color of my teeth,
¿How can this be fix?
The most common reason for this problem
is incorrect cementation of the veneers.
The cement can discolor or there is a
space where food and bacteria are
collected causing stains and maybe even
decay. When the original color of the
tooth is visible this is due to an
improper design of the tooth preparation
for the veneer to cover these areas.
To solve this problem new veneers have
to be done with adequate preparation and
bonding techniques, A high-Tec lab that
make veneers that adapt correctly to the
teeth must be use to create excellent
results.
