Designing a beautiful smile requires the
integration of knowledge, experience,
and technical expertise to harmoniously
create a balance between form, function,
and esthetics.
Several factors are important when
evaluating a smile.
Occlusion/Bite:
Your chewing ability must be preserved
or improved, therefore it is essential
to consider this factor when your new
smile is design.
Gumms:
In order to achieve a beautiful smile,
the gingival tissue must be healthy and
symmetrically well contoured around the
teeth like a frame to a painting.

Teeth:
In order to make a good treatment plan
to restore the smile the structural
integrity of the teeth, presence and
size of old fillings must be considered
as well as the teeth shape, color,
position, wear, and spaces between them.
A very important factor is to determine
if the biting edges of the front top
teeth form an upward arc and follow the
curve of the lower lip or are the two
front teeth shorter than the canines
forming a downward arc (frown)?
These are some of the things that must
be consider in a smile evaluation. If
the bite and the gum tissues are good,
then the next step would be to look at
the cosmetic treatment options.
Teeth Whitening:
Whitening can be done in the dental
office in a one hour visit or you can
choose the "at home" method. Either
method is effective and will make a
great difference. This is the simplest
and least expensive cosmetic procedure
you can do to enhance your smile.
Porcelain Veneers:
The state of the art cosmetic treatment
option is this. It is make like a fake
fingernail built in the lab with
porcelain that when bonded to your tooth
is extremely strong. It doesn't
discolor, has depth of color and shine
that resembles natural teeth.
Porcelain crowns:
These restorations are similar to
veneers, but they are indicated for
teeth that are structurally weaker an
need a reinforcement all around to
protect them better from fractures.

Porcelain Onlays and Inlays:
When restorations are needed on back
(posterior) teeth we sometimes use these
restorations in stead of composite
fillings because they are stronger.
Composite Resins:
This material is used as a filling
material for either posterior or
anterior teeth. It is a tooth colored,
bonded material, which can structurally
reinforce a tooth, as compared to silver
fillings, which weaken teeth.

These materials can be used to change
the color, shape, and position of the
teeth to design a perfect smile like we
do with porcelain veneer. It isn’t as
strong as porcelain and sometimes will
suffer chipping but it is easily repair.
Another disadvantage is that they may
discolor with time. But they are an
excellent alternative for those persons
who do not feel ready for porcelain
veneers.

When patients present spaces
between the teeth the
problem can be solved using
composite resin veneers. |

questions, you may be a candidate for
any of the cosmetic treatments mention

about how the final results may look
after any of these treatments, we can
use pictures, or models to show you how
it would look at the end, before
